Physical Instructor-Led Training (6 hours) - Thursday June 18
The instructor-led session builds on the theoretical module and translates knowledge into operational competence through case discussions, tactical assessments, structured scenario exercises, and interactive dialogue.
Topics include:
- Development of lithium-ion battery incidents over time
- Risk assessment during different incident phases
- Pre-ignition stage
- Active fire stage
- Post-extinguishment and re-ignition risk
- Tactical considerations and limitations
- Cooling strategies
- Containment principles
- Monitoring and long-duration management
- Command, control, and onboard decision-making
- Use of standardized checklists and action cards
- Coordination between vessel command, engine room, shore management and external responders
- Lessons learned from real maritime battery incidents
- Scenario-based tabletop discussions
The physical session is highly interactive and focuses on applying the theoretical knowledge to realistic maritime operational contexts.
Course flexibility
While the course follows the structure outlined above, the instructor may make minor adjustments to the content if relevant developments, recent incidents, or participant experience suggest that additional topics would provide valuable learning. This allows the training to incorporate current events or practical lessons that strengthen the operational relevance of the course.
